Five Things That Should Happen in Game of Thrones: Season Seven

With the release of a cryptic and mysterious teaser, the world revisits the captivating story of Game of Thrones once more. Before more teasers and other bits of information (if we’re lucky) are revealed, let’s begin the speculation and hopes of what the penultimate season has to offer.

A Stark Reuniongot-jon-sansa-1280jpg-6aaf3e_1280wThere’s no denying that the Starks have gone through hell since Ned Stark had his head chopped off. And there’s no denying that everyone felt so much relief when Sansa and Jon reunited and reclaimed Winterfell last season. With Game of Thrones coming to an end by next year, I (like many others) hope that more Starks reunite and band together.

Considering Bran is moving past the wall and re-entering the Seven Kingdoms again, Bran will most likely be the next to reunite with his relatives – and hopefully reveal to Jon his true heritage. Arya might be the last one to return to her family considering her position however, when this happens will possibly be at the end of the season or early in season eight. Regardless of how it plays out, the Stark reunion will bring joy to viewers and happiness in the bleak world of Thrones.

That is, if no one dies.

A Meeting of Fire and Icesansa-stark-jon-snow-daenerys-targaryen-tyrion-lannisterWhat the teasers are hinting towards is the meeting of the Starks and Daenerys and her crew (finally). There would be reunions with the Starks and Theon, and Sansa and Tyrion however, the most anticipated meeting would be between Daenerys and her nephew (can we say this officially or are we still waiting for proper in-show confirmation) Jon.

It would be wishful thinking to say that things would go smoothly between the two parties but in the world of Game of Thrones, it’s more than likely that these two families might not get along. Especially since the Starks helped take down the Targaryens before. However, what could bring these two together is Jon and the development of his parentage. So Bran, if you could share this information at the earliest convenience, much appreciated.

Most people are hoping for a Stark-Targaryen alliance and it might come to a deal: no one touches Winterfell and assistance with the White Walkers in exchange for Stark allegiance to Dany’s claim to the throne. It won’t be smooth and will be a definite point of conflict if these two stories come together.

Cersei’s Downfall1467130963167-cachedNow here’s my theory about how the rest of the show will play out: season seven will revolve around King’s Landing and the lead-up to the end of the titular “Game of Thrones” while season eight will focus more on the impending doom of the Seven Kingdoms itself. And going with that mindset, Cersei will have a key role in how this plays out.

There may be a clash between Daenerys and Cersei though they might not meet physically (then again, Dany has her dragons). Hopefully, we can see Cersei lose control over her desperation to remain in power and watch her downfall. She’s a brilliant villain in the story that she deserves to go out with a bang (even if Margaery died in a similar fashion). If Cersei lives past this then obviously they’re saving all the big developments for one hell of a finale.

But if we want to go the complete opposite, Cersei consolidates her rule and is as villainous as ever.

A Moment with Brienne and Jaime

I don’t care what you say. Of course, this is just wishful thinking but just more moments between the two makes for great viewing. The subtlety between the two of them is both heart-wrenching and heart-warming. If this relationship develops from implied attraction to something explicitly acknowledged, I will scream.

Excuse the fangirl emerging.

#cleganebowlthe-mountain-the-hound-gotNow I was tossing up between Melissandre and Arya’s prophesied meeting, or the clash of two brothers and the latter seemed like the more exciting option. Much like Brienne and Jamie’s relationship, the history between The Hound and The Mountain has always been implied or revealed through dialogue.

Rarely has there been any interaction between the two and if they will ever fight each other: there’s no time like the present. Although, I’m not sure how it will play out, I hope we do get to see these two sort out their family problems the only way Game of Thrones knows how – violently.

BONUS: The Return of Gendry#stillrowing-gendry-gotFor the love of all that is good and pure, can Gendry please stop rowing and return to dry land? Preferably to Arya’s side.

So are there other things that can be expected from the upcoming season of Game of Thrones but I feel like these five (or six) are the most important to me. If you have anything you’re expecting from the season or want to include your own thoughts, leave a comment below!

  1. I like a lot of your predictions, but I’m doubtful that Cleganebowl will be happening this season (maybe season 8, but I don’t think it’ll be what people expect) – and Cersei’s signature power is survival. I assume we’ll see her in season 8 as well.

Ugh, we have so many more months to wait.

    1. Thanks for the comment! A lot of just wishful thinking I guess. Also completely forgot that aspect of Cersei so completely reasonable for to see her in season eight but maybe not in power?

Only four months so plenty of speculating to be done…

      1. It’s still not a bad speculation. My thought is that Dany might get sidetracked, or Cersei might ally with the under-developed-on-the-show Euron Greyjoy.

Gregor Clegane might kill a dragon and make Daenerys re-evaluate.

I am definitely rooting for more Stark reunions though. Littlefinger better not screw that up.

      2. Ahhh all interesting concepts but who knows… it’s Game of Thrones so I’m just gonna expect the unexpected.

And I think everyone wants a small piece of happiness with Stark reunions. Just one in this season and I’ll be happy.
