Film Review: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

guardians-galaxy-vol-2-new-logoThe latest instalment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains in space as we follow the Guardians of the Galaxy in another crazy adventure. The film is fun. Some flaws but a whole lot of fun. And that’s all you could really ask for with one of the lighter Marvel movies: fun.

Why Iron Fist Should’ve Been Asian

iron-fist-danny-rand-defendersThe debut of Marvel’s final defender was received with mixed reviews and considered the weakest of the Marvel Netflix series. Some attribute this to the poor reception of Finn Jones’ performance as the titular character which warranted its own controversy when the casting was first announced.

Even though the comic book character (correct me if I’m completely wrong) was Caucasian, Iron Fist could have been the chance for an Asian superhero. Instead, the casting of Finn Jones caused controversy over white-washing and cultural representation that I want to put to the side in this post as there are so many articles about the topic already.

The games The Last of Us and The Walking Dead: Season One tell a similar story and one could argue that there are elements that these two games share with the final chapter of the Wolverine saga.

At its core, these stories revolve around a tough man with some issues forced to look after a young female child in a post-apocalyptic world and eventually become their father-figure. What I want to highlight is how Logan parallels to these games – even if it’s a stretch. Because why not.

Film Review: Doctor Strange

mystical-strange-005-ew

Sure, this review is a tad bit late. Sure, this movie has been released for quite some time already. But here’s a quick review of the newest superhero film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Doctor Strange. Overall, the film was a breath of fresh air to the Marvel Universe introducing both the titular hero and the concept of magic. If you’re tired of watching the massive barrage of superhero movies, maybe Doctor Strange might change your mind. Continue reading “Film Review: Doctor Strange”
